Bay Lower - Toronto Transit Commission Subway Station

Once an active station on the subway system of Toronto, if only briefly, the lower level to Bay station has the honour of being the only completed and usable station in the system to sit unused, never seeing the public traffic that the other stations see daily. Also, being out of sight, it is also out of mind for many citizens of the city.

Bay Lower, which was designed by architect Arthur G.Keith, was built at the same time as the rest of the Bloor-Danforth line (green line), when there were plans to interline trains on the Yonge-University line (yellow line). It saw use for six months before it was determined that there were too many issues with the interlined system, of which signaling and train scheduling issues were the most common, and the two lines were separated. Bay Lower (as the lower level is now known), no longer needed, was sealed off, and relegated to its current use; staff training (both TTC and Toronto Police Services) and movie shoots.

Staff are known to be in the lower level of the station on occasion, and are expected to call you in to Transit Control and security if you are spotted. Whether they would, however, is up for debate. And while it used to be simple, albeit risky, to run down the subway tunnels to get into the station, it's not that way anymore. Other explorers have reported the existence of motion sensors within the tunnels, and it has been confirmed that there are cameras now monitoring the platforms themselves.

Is it worth it? Well, it's somewhat interesting, but not interesting enough to get caught over. Will you get caught by the security devices? That remains to be seen; so far, I haven't heard of anyone who has been caught, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of it happening.
